SKILL CLASSIFICATION:    Maintenance and Custodial Services

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: To maintain the physical plant, facility grounds and vehicles in a condition of operating excellence to ensure full use and safe operation at all times.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrate consistent punctuality and regular attendance, with maintenance of facilities and equipment as the number one priority.
  2. Demonstrate appropriate safety precautions.
  3. Adhere to local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies, standards, codes and laws.
  4. Adhere to established district policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; creating work orders, tracking and inputting work hours and jobs performed in the district maintenance management system.
  5. Appropriate, professional dress for job duties and performing duties in the presence of children and staff.
  6. Attend department staff meetings as required.
  7. Work cooperatively with other district employees, the general public, and students.
  8. Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality.
  9. Maintain, monitor and repair electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical, boiler and related systems and equipment.
  10. Operate Nenana City School District vehicles and heavy equipment.
  11. General building maintenance including, but not limited to; interior and exterior lighting, light construction, painting, weatherproofing, etc.
  12. Maintain grounds to include mowing of grass, plowing of snow, leveling of soil, watering of plants, planting schrubs, etc.
  13. Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Mental Abilities

  1. Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  2. Demonstrated positive speech skills (enunciation and clarity)
  3. Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately
  4. Ability to work with people of various personality types (flexibility)
  5. Possess and demonstrate sound emotional judgment
  6. Effective organizational skills.
  7. Ability to follow and successfully complete written and oral directions
  8. Ability to observe or monitor objects and people’s behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
  9. General knowledge in electrical, plumbing, mechanical plumbing, interior and exterior lighting, boiler operation, heating plant maintenance, general building maintenance is desired, but not required.  Ability and desire to learn the systems.
  10. Previous successful experience working independently or with minimal supervision
  11. Ability to operate forklift, small tractor, other light equipment
  12. General automotive knowledge, desired.
  13. Possess Alaska driver’s license
  14. Verifiably clean driving record, no major infractions in past 3 years
  15. Display aptitude and concern for good facility maintenance
  16. Demonstrate initiative and ability to evaluate situations requiring action

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Lower body strength to kneel, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
  2. Ability to remain in a standing, sitting or kneeling position for extended periods of time.
  3. Upper body strength to correctly lift a minimum of 80 pounds and carry more than 100 feet.
  4. Verbal stamina to articulate clearly and with appropriate volume throughout the workday.
  5. Auditory discrimination sufficient to receive detailed information through normal speech at 5 feet and warning cries or alarms normal speech levels.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  1. Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
  2. Occasional exposure to loud noises.
  3. Some work to be accomplished in small or cramped spaces
  4. Variable hours depending upon facility needs

 EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
  3. Pass criminal history background check.
